Staveley Town Council has approved its budget for the 2026/27 financial year and agreed a 3.2% increase in the Town Council precept.
For residents, this means the Town Council element of council tax will increase by £3.92 per year for a Band D property (around 8p per week). For Band A properties – the most common property band in Staveley – the increase is £2.61 per year (around 5p per week).
The Council has set a total spending budget of £1,134,028.80 for the coming year. This will be funded through the precept, income generated from council services and facilities, grants, and the planned use of reserves including Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds.
The Town Council precept contributes £589,448 towards this overall budget, with further income from other sources helping support services and facilities across the town.
The Town Council provides a range of services and facilities that support community life across Staveley. As shown in the accompanying graphic, every £1 of the precept is spent across key areas including:
Buildings management (47p) – operating and maintaining community facilities such as Staveley Hall, the Stables and the Speedwell Rooms
Community engagement (20p) – community grants, events, Christmas lights, civic activities and elections
Governance and resources (15p) – insurance, IT systems, office costs, training and vehicles
Loan repayments (13p) – repayments linked to council capital investment
Public realm (5p) – allotments, hanging baskets, the market, benches and noticeboards
These services help maintain important local facilities and support events, activities and improvements across the town.
The Council will continue to manage its finances carefully throughout the year while working to maximise income from its facilities and external funding opportunities.
