The benefits of plants in urban places

Plants help to maintain the ecosystem providing natural habitats for our fauna, they:

  • Provide an uplifting advert for the town centre

  • Offset the carbon footprint

  • Increase the air quality in the town centre

  • Create a townscape that others want to visit

  • Have a positive effect on our wellbeing

If you love gardening, and would like to take part in the general gentle upkeep of our planters, or if you are a local school or organisation who would like to get involved, please contact us via info@staveleytowncouncil.gov.uk

Along with a selection of planters in the town centre and surrounding areas, Staveley Town Council also provide hanging baskets and structured displays. These add benefit to the character and inviting scape across the town, and a positive effect on wellbeing for those visiting.

It is important in encouraging visitors to the town, who utilise the local traders, take part in local events and activities, and enjoy our heritage, that we upkeep a positive, uplifting appearance.

The planters also provide natural habitats for a wealth of insects and help to offset our carbon footprint.  We plan to add plants wherever it is possible and appropriate.

The plants utilised in the soft urban landscaping are purchased from local growers, and are seen throughout the town from May through to September.
