The home of the former Hartington Colliery, built in 1875 when it first produced coal for Staveley Coal and Iron Company, the colliery has now been developed to create a business and industrial park. As with many local areas it is in a stage of transformation and regeneration, from an industrial age that relied heavily on quality local dug coal, to a sustainable area generating employment, new industries and a different landscape.
A project is underway to refresh the stretch of waterway between Staveley Lock and the Hartington Harbour which will develop an area for leisure activities and walking routes for visitors and the local community to enjoy.
Our local area has many activities and events, run by local organisations and charities with volunteers giving time to inspire others through enjoyment and a great day out.
Staveley Town Council would love to hear from such organisations who have projects and ideas for events or activity days which would give a positive benefit to others in the community.
This may be in the form of a fair for example, or a community competition or similarly a local project to improve the amenities for all.
If you have such an idea, why not share it with us, or apply for community funding to enable your idea to come to fruition. in the first instance and to find out how we can help, please contact the Town Clerk on: 01246 473132 or email info@staveleytowncouncil.gov.uk
The Staveley to Hartington Harbour Towpath is an accessible route for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users alike
