Staveley is a town and civil parish in the borough of Chesterfield located along the banks of the River Rother. As an industrial town, it has undergone many changes and is still in the process of regeneration. There are several buildings in Staveley which are listed and date back as far as the 1600s and beyond. Within the community there is a keen interest in heritage with groups such as those at St John the Baptist Church who host regular informative events.
Staveley Hall is situated to the North East flank of St John the Baptist church, built to it’s present state in 1604 by Sir Peter Frecheville MP. Before the hall was reworked by Sir Peter, there had been a building on the site for over 700 years. It was purchased by Staveley Urban District Council in 1967, and was designated ‘listed’ status in 1974 by English Heritage
The Hall has several rooms which are available for hire some bearing the names of those involved in it’s history such as the Devonshire Room and the Frecheville Room.
The hall itself hosts events and exhibitions throughout the year, please follow Staveley Town Council on Facebook or see our Events Page for details of any current or upcoming events or installations
The Staveley Circular is part of the Trans-Pennine Trail and offers leisure, shops and a wide range of food serving establishments
Walkers and Ramblers
Cyclists and Mountain Bikers
Horse riding and hacking
Downloadable maps, routes and details of facilities are all available from the Trans-Pennine Trail website
Staveley Town Council would love to hear from such organisations who have projects and ideas for events or activity days which would give a positive benefit to others in the community.
This may be in the form of a fair for example, or a community competition or similarly a local project to improve the amenities for all.
If you have such an idea, why not share it with us, or apply for community funding to enable your idea to come to fruition. in the first instance and to find out how we can help, please contact the Town Clerk on: 01246 473132 or email info@staveleytowncouncil.gov.uk
