Hollingwood was built ( along with Barrow Hill ) in 1900 to build houses for the workers of the newly formed Staveley Coal and Iron Company. Between Barrow Hill and Hollingwood runs the Chesterfield Canal ( which forms part of the Trans-Pennine Trail.
The Chesterfield Canal is currently being renovated by the Chesterfield Canal Trust. The Canal House at Hollingwood having been renovated, it is now a visitor centre with a very popular cafe. It is also the Trust headquarters.
If you do plan to visit check out their opening times so you won’t be disappointed.
Between Hollingwood and Inkersall is Ringwood Park where you will find a fishing lake, a BMX bike track along with a children’s play area. Ringwood Park is also the location of Ringwood Hall, the home of the Markham Family, built for the management of Staveley Works.
